Rambam in Depth
Welcome to Rambam in Depth
When the Lubavitcher Rebbe initiated the daily study of Rambam, he took note that the sheer volume of halachot to be learned per day would make it hard to pay proper attention to the study of each halacha. He therefore suggested that the learner should make an effort to study at least one halacha in depth.
When one learns three chapters a day, it is hard to learn all the halachot in depth, with critical analysis, etc. It is possible that this study will end up being superficial. Therefore, it would be proper—for those whom it is appropriate—to learn (in addition to the daily three chapters) one halacha, or at least one detail from the daily study, in depth with critical analysis (Likkutei Sichos, vol. 27 p. 233).
One should add in their daily study of Rambam (be it three chapters a day, one chapter a day, or Sefer Hamitzvos) and with an emphasis that at least one halacha from the daily chapter(s) should be learned in depth (Toras Menachem 5749, vol. 3, p. 282).
Therefore, Chayenu has introduced this new section, drawing from classic commentaries, which will give you a deep dive into one halacha from the weekly Rambam.
In this section, we explore the background of the halacha, contrast Rambam’s opinion with that of his contemporaries, or share various ways in which later sages understood Rambam’s view. This section will surely become your favorite Rambam companion.
Daily Rambam Insight
The Chayenu 3-Chapter Edition features a daily insight on Rambam, excerpted from Rambam - Pardes Hamelech. The Pardes Hamelech edition is a revolutionary printing of Rambam, featuring the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s eye-opening explanations and insights, giving the reader the Rebbe’s perspective on “tackling” a Rambam.
While the excerpts included in your Chayenu are but a glimpse of the far broader treatment in the original volume, you can be sure that they will take your Rambam study to a whole new level.
